Peproni Pizzeria (Zion Road)

Celebrated JX's birthday yesterday at Peperoni Pizzeria with a group of my friends. We met up earlier without JX knowing and bought him 2 slices of cake.

Since it's a pizzeria, it's obvious that you should order pizza and so we did! We ordered the 21'' XXL pizza ($50). Super huge with generous amount of toppings! Bigger than a human face. We chose half Quattro Formaggi (which consist of mozarella, taleggio, scamoza and gorgonzola cheese) and half Proscuitto Crudo di Parma(which is parma ham and rocket salad).

I like the pizza with the parma ham and rocket more than the four cheese. The parma ham pizza with rocket was well balanced. The slightly bitter(?) rocket salad complimented the savory parma ham and cheese well. For the quattro formaggi, you really could taste all the different type of cheese. One that I did taste was the blue cheese which gave a little mint taste from what I tasted. However the quattro formaggi is way too cheesy for my liking but JX love it a lot(cause he loves cheese). The crust of the pizza was also nice- crispy. Every one of us love how big the pizza was.(Finally something that did not leave the table as soon as it arrived since we all are so kiasu, always trying to get as much food as possible)

We ordered the Calamari Fritti ($14)- deep fried squid rings with lemon, mayo and arrabbiata sauce. The seasoning of the calamari was good and it tasted nice with the sauces given. The mayo added creaminess while the arrabbiata added a slight acidity to the calamari.

Deep Fried Chicken Wings ($8). The best chicken wings I have ever tasted! The seasoning it just perfect and it's also crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Definitely a must try!

The Funghi Portobello con Pollo ($20)- deep fried whole portobello with sauteed chicken fillets in red wine sauce. A match made in heaven. Earthy mushroom with slices of tender chicken on a bed of rockets, topped with a delicious sauce. The combination of everything together is genius! Even though it seems pricey, it's worth it. Especially for a mushroom lover like me.

Funghi e Pollo ($23)- sauteed button mushroom & chicken fillets in brown sauce. There are 5 different pasta to choose from- Spaghetti, Tagliatelle, Linguine, Penne, Fusilli, Capellini. Mine was spaghetti. Just like the portobello mushroom, this pasta was delicious. Flavors was similar to the deep fried portobello mushroom but the pasta did not gave me as much satisfaction as the fried mushroom above.

At the end of our meal, we brought out the cake and sang JX a birthday song. The Rainbow Cake surprisingly was really nice. It was moist and frosting was not too sweet.

The Oreo Cheesecake was also good. The cheesecake and base were of good proportion. The cake was cheesy but not overpowering. A good buy from the icing room. Both slices cost a total of $8.80.

Such a great feeling to hang out with my secondary school friends again. (:

Dean & Deluca

Went with ZQ to Dean & Delica. Look at those yummy cakes!

I ordered Caramel Cheesecake ($8). The caramel layer was a little too thin so I couldn't really taste it(kinda disappointed since I love caramel). However the cake was rich, dense and cheesy. Good with a cup of hot tea. I also love that there were walnuts as it helped cut the richness I got from the cake. This is a must try for cheesecake lovers. Overall I think they should have a much thicker layer of caramel but still I like it.

ZQ ordered the Rainbow Cake ($7.50) and to our surprise each layer had a different fruity taste. The frosting also had a fruity flavor. Something different from the usual rainbow cake. However, ZQ said one of the layers tasted like cough syrup. I tried a little and thought that it was nice and moist but I still prefer my rich yummy cheesecake which ZQ would disagree.

Tiong Bahru Hawker Centre

So today after church, I went with my parents to Tiong Bahru Hawker Centre for lunch.
We ordered Dry Mixed Beef Noodles from Joo Chiat Beef King, Egg Yolk Xiao Long Bao from Extreme Xiao Long Bao, Chee Kueh and Teh-C.

Mixed Beef Noodles, Dry ($4). The gravy of the beef noodles was nice but it could be better. Portion is enough for an average person. Soup was tasty. I like that there were meat balls, my favorite!

Xiao Long Bao, Egg Yolk. It's just normal xiao long bao with egg yolk, steamed buns with pork and egg yolk filling with some broth inside. I prefer the original one(without the egg yolk) as the egg yolk was not as watery as I had expected. It felt like I was eating steamed egg yolk. Not a good combination.

Chee Kueh ($1.50). First of all what is chee kueh? Well it's rice flour and water steamed in a small metal cup, topped with diced preserved radish. It's really nice. The topping is not too fine, just the right texture with bits of the radish to bite. The topping has a strong flavor which goes well with the plain kueh. The chilli is also really nice, spicy and has the dried prawn taste as well.

Teh-C ($1) To end off my meal, I had teh-c which is just tea with condensed milk and sugar. I saw that the shop had the condensed milk cans attached to strings and my mom told me that in the olden days they would used them to da pao(packet) drinks instead of plastic/Styrofoam cups. It looked really cool so I ordered one as take-away. Had to wait till it cooled down before I could drink it.
Environment-wise: this is very good as you can recycle it and save some cost.
Health-wise: not so good as this can metal might have harmful chemical or rust which can be very harmful.

On our way, we also bought some buns from Dough & Grains- A bakery that sells Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) bread.

We bought the Wolfberry and Chrysanthemum bread. The wolfberry taste wasn't prominent while the chrysanthemum couldn't be detected. Texture-wise, the bread was really soft and fluffy!

Had a great food day today!

Singapore International Band Festival (SIBF)

So Ang Mo Kio Alumni Wind Ensemble(AMKAWE) participated in the SIBF yesterdayHow did my day went?
Well, I got out of school earlier and headed to amkss for rehearsal, afterwards the bus came, had an apple pie and then sound check at TRCC before the real performance commenced.

Mrs Seah was so nice, she bought apple pie for everyone(which we ate on the bus)!

Check us out. Someone took a photo of us taking a selfie before the actual performance. FYI we were taking a selfie at the backstage while waiting for our turn. We're too cool. Hahah.

So yea, really glad that I joined AMKAWE for SIBF. Really hated and enjoyed all the practices we had together. Hated then I couldn't have my Saturdays free but loved that I could spent time with my band friends again.
Even though we did not get first place liked we had hoped, it was still a wonderful experience being able to make music with everyone together. Gonna miss everyone especially............ my clarinet! ):

A picture of my love. Gonna miss having my mouth hurt by you...

IWannaGetStuffed

IWannaGetStuffed is a small restaurant that sells western food such as pizza and pasta. It is located at some HDB block at Tampines.

Anyway, Eugenia, ZQ and I went to IWannaGetStuffed after school for dinner. When we got there it was quite empty- 2 table of 2. To add on there was only 1 staff(kitchen) during that time, working both front and back of the house. After a while we managed to order and we waited for our food to arrive.

The first thing that arrived was the Beer Battered Prawns ($6) which Eugenia ordered. The prawn was not overcooked. Salad dressing was nice. However, my friend complaint that the prawn wasn't deveined. In my opinion it's quite worth the money.

The Portobello Mushroom Surprise ($6)- Succulent Portobello Mushrooms topped with cheese and grilled to perfection. Take a bite and discover the tasty ham treat inside. Well the descriptions said mushrooms and we were a little disappointed when the dish arrived with only one mushroom. Nevertheless, the mushroom was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious with the ham and cheese.

Now on to my main, I ordered Creamy Pasta Al Funghi ($9.80)- or simply put, fresh mushrooms sauteed with garlic, onion and finished with fresh cream. There are 3 choices of pasta- spaghetti, linguine or penne. Obviously I chose spaghetti as you can see from the picture. The sauce was light and creamy, pasta al dente but the mushroom did not had any seasoning. Even though sauce was light, it was too much for me so I didn't finish the pasta.

Zq ordered Pasta Cabonara ($10.80)- a delicious favorite of Smokey bacon and cream. She chose linguine for her pasta. The cabonara sauce tasted like cream with bacon(duh!), creamy and bacon-y. Bacon was not crispy like I expected it would be and pasta was slightly harder than my spaghetti. My friend commented that pizza hut's caboanara taste better.

Eugenia ordered Risotto Al Funghi ($10.80)- the word 'Risotto' means, cooked rice. Al Funghi, Meaning with mushrooms. This dish is a rich combination of Italian Rice cooked with mixed mushrooms, cream and perfectly seasoned. Basically it's my pasta dish replaced with rice. Rice texture was on the hard side. Could be more tender and soft. Seasoning wise, it could use more.

Halfway through while the only staff was serving pasta another staff arrived which made the kitchen staff relieved.

At the end when we called for bill and the lady calculated it wrongly. We had to point it out to her for which she apologized and said that she mistakenly wrote the wrong amount.

For me what I enjoyed the most at IWannaGetStuffed was the mushroom dish and that there's no GST or Service Charge.

KM Duathlon

On Saturday night, I went with my friend and her sis friends to Changi Village Food Centre for dinner before we head to Changi Exihibition Centre for the KM Duathlon. I ate Hokkien Mee and had Red Ruby for dessert.

The Hokkien mee($3.50) was okay. I like the chilli. The prawn and squid were not over cooked. However, it had that fishy taste which I don't really like.

The Red Ruby was nice, my sis friend bought it for me (hehe, lucky me). I like the syrup which reminds me of bandung. Lychee was juicy as always.

Now on to the KM Duathlon, the first ever KM Duathlon which consist of running and cycling over 2 distances- KM60 Distance(10km run, followed by 40km cycle and ending with a 10km run) and KM30 Distance(5km run, followed by 20km cycle and ending with a 5km run).

I volunteered with my friend to help out in this event. We reported at the venue at around 11pm and stayed awake all the way(so hiong sia me, haha not really, I actually took a few naps) till 2pm the next day when the event ended. We were given snack pack, breakfast and lunch for survival which were more than enough. The people there were really easy to get along with and I found people who attends the same school as me(such a small, small world).
Look at them run
Let the race begin! There wasn't much to do while they were running so, I took out my phone and began taking photos!

Look at the sunrise. So pretty.

After a few minutes, the sun appeared.

So this was how I spent my Saturday night till Sunday afternoon. When I got home, I bathed and KO immediately(fyi I slept for 11 hours).
