Victor's Kitchen (Sunshine Plaza)

Went to Victor's Kitchen with zq for their Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun. They aim to serve delicious dimsum at an affordable price.

King Prawn Cheong Fun ($4.80). Rice noodles with prawns. There were about 4 prawns in total with 3 rice noodle rolls with a salty tasty sauce. The nice thing about it is that they actually use prawns instead of shrimps but I felt that the noodles were a little thick.

Xiao Long Bao [soup dumpling] ($5.20). So we poke the bao before eating it so that the soup would flow out. Taste wise it was not bad but I still felt that the skin here was a little thicker than what I had tried before elsewhere. Zq also agreed.

Victor's King Prawn Dumplings ($5.20)- Succulent prawns encased in chewy, translucent flour. A must-try. Generously filled with prawns. The har gow is always a favourite for me.

Golden Egg Yolk Lava Bun ($4.80)-Our show-stopper. These fluffy buns pack a decadent punch - a gooey, sumptuous custard and egg yolk paste awaken your taste buds as you bite into them. Consistently voted #1 custard bun in Singapore. Another one of my favourites. It was sweet with some small chunks of salted egg, so yummy. However, the filling inside looked split.

Overall I feel that the items here are a little on the pricey side for their taste. The good thing is that all prices are inclusive of GST.

Tang Tea House (Simpang Bedok)

Went to Tang Tea House for dim dum with kart and zq. It is a place where you can have halal tze char and dim sum.

Shanghai Steamed Chicken Dumpling ($4.40)- The skin was slightly thicker then the usual xiao long bao. There's soup inside so be careful when you eat it. Compared to a non-halal xiao long bao, this one which uses chicken meat here is not as juicy and tender. The skin was also a quite sticky.

Golden Sand Buns ($4.50)- My favourite look out when I'm in a dim sum shop. The salted egg custard was good, it oozes out as you bite into the bao. Salty, sweet and slightly creamy filling with the soft fluffy warm buns. The perfect combination.

Salted Egg Crystal Dumplings ($4.20)- Shrimp, chives and egg yolk. Taste quite similar to har gow. Didn't really like the cooked egg yolk which made you feel dry.

Har Kow ($4.20)- Shrimps in a slightly chewy and sticky skin. Taste almost the same as the non halal one.

Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert (Bedok)

Went to Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert with Zq for dinner.

You would never have never thought that a place called Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert would sell food other than dessert. They sells Hong Kong style dessert, snack, rice and noodles.

I ordered the Braised Pork Rib Rice ($6.90). The pork rib was tender and flavorful. The vegetables were just blanched without any seasoning so it tasted plain. The chili given was good. Crunchy and spicy.

I also enhanced my meal (+$1.90) for a Pumpkin Cake and Raspberry Lemongrass Jelly. The warm pumpkin cake tasted like yam cake except a little more fruity(?). The jelly had the lemongrass essence and was served chilled.

Zq and I ordered the Yolky Custard Pau ($2.90). The molten lava filling inside this fluffy pastry is a yummy combination of savoury salted egg yolk and sweet custard. Definitely lip-smacking! I always order this when I come to Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert. It's really good and so picture worthy. I really love the salted egg yolk flavor combined with custard. Whoever invented this must have been a genius.

They charge 7% for GST and 1% for service charge.
