Quarter to Three

Quarter to Three is a cafe at Tanjong Pagar which sells your usual selections- cakes, sandwiches, coffee etc...

WX, KY and I went there after dinner for dessert! Actually I wanted to try Drury Lane (which is a few blocks away) but after contemplating we decided on Quarter to Three.

Saw that they had a new item which sounded delicious so we ordered it.

Brownie Waffle with Ice Cream ($10.90). It was good. Warm cake-like chocolate brownie/waffle with the coldness of the vanilla ice cream was so yummy. Strawberries were more on the acidic side than sweet, but the ice cream and chocolate sauce helped balance it. Overall we liked it but we think that the items they sell are a little on the pricey side .

Cake Spade

Went to Cake Spade with zq to try their cakes, cause zq said that their cake was nice.

Red Velvet Cheesecake($6.80)- Crunchy Oreo base, cheesecake with cocoa and vanilla, topped with fresh cream. It is dense, like a non-baked cheesecake with mild flavor of cocoa but stronger flavor of cream cheese.

Victoria Sponge($5.90)- A classic feather-like spongecake filled with fresh strawberries and cream. Strawberries and cream are always a nice combination. Cake was light. Thanks to the cream, it gave the cake the moisture that it needed. The strawberries also help gave a refreshing taste to the cake.

Fluff

I heard that Fluff Bakery sells some awesome tasting cupcakes so there I was queuing up even before they opened.

Salted Caramel Cupcake ($4)- light and fluffy vanilla cake with a salted caramel filling, topped with mascarpone frosting and salted caramel drizzle. Cake was moist and taste like vanilla. Frosting was not too sweet and went well with the salted caramel drizzle. Even though there wasn't a lot of  salted caramel drizzled on the cupcake, I could still taste the salted caramel in every bite. The best part about this cupcake was the salted caramel filling! I absolutely love ADORE salted caramel!! When I bit into it, it was salty goodness

Mooncake ($4)- light and fluffy brown sugar cake with a white lotus and salted egg yolk filling, a very light green tea frosting and white chocolate chips. This is a really interesting cupcake and as the name suggest, it really does taste like mooncake. I applaud fluff bakery for coming up with this flavor.(my first time seeing it in a cupcake form) The cake was moist and went well with the white lotus paste and egg yolk filling. However, the egg yolk together with the frosting tasted a little weird so I just ate the yolk without the frosting which was yummy.

This is the BEST cupcake I have tried. I don't mind going back to buy more. Maybe next time I'll buy the mooncake flavor instead of mooncake for my family to try.

Peproni Pizzeria (Zion Road)

Celebrated JX's birthday yesterday at Peperoni Pizzeria with a group of my friends. We met up earlier without JX knowing and bought him 2 slices of cake.

Since it's a pizzeria, it's obvious that you should order pizza and so we did! We ordered the 21'' XXL pizza ($50). Super huge with generous amount of toppings! Bigger than a human face. We chose half Quattro Formaggi (which consist of mozarella, taleggio, scamoza and gorgonzola cheese) and half Proscuitto Crudo di Parma(which is parma ham and rocket salad).

I like the pizza with the parma ham and rocket more than the four cheese. The parma ham pizza with rocket was well balanced. The slightly bitter(?) rocket salad complimented the savory parma ham and cheese well. For the quattro formaggi, you really could taste all the different type of cheese. One that I did taste was the blue cheese which gave a little mint taste from what I tasted. However the quattro formaggi is way too cheesy for my liking but JX love it a lot(cause he loves cheese). The crust of the pizza was also nice- crispy. Every one of us love how big the pizza was.(Finally something that did not leave the table as soon as it arrived since we all are so kiasu, always trying to get as much food as possible)

We ordered the Calamari Fritti ($14)- deep fried squid rings with lemon, mayo and arrabbiata sauce. The seasoning of the calamari was good and it tasted nice with the sauces given. The mayo added creaminess while the arrabbiata added a slight acidity to the calamari.

Deep Fried Chicken Wings ($8). The best chicken wings I have ever tasted! The seasoning it just perfect and it's also crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Definitely a must try!

The Funghi Portobello con Pollo ($20)- deep fried whole portobello with sauteed chicken fillets in red wine sauce. A match made in heaven. Earthy mushroom with slices of tender chicken on a bed of rockets, topped with a delicious sauce. The combination of everything together is genius! Even though it seems pricey, it's worth it. Especially for a mushroom lover like me.

Funghi e Pollo ($23)- sauteed button mushroom & chicken fillets in brown sauce. There are 5 different pasta to choose from- Spaghetti, Tagliatelle, Linguine, Penne, Fusilli, Capellini. Mine was spaghetti. Just like the portobello mushroom, this pasta was delicious. Flavors was similar to the deep fried portobello mushroom but the pasta did not gave me as much satisfaction as the fried mushroom above.

At the end of our meal, we brought out the cake and sang JX a birthday song. The Rainbow Cake surprisingly was really nice. It was moist and frosting was not too sweet.

The Oreo Cheesecake was also good. The cheesecake and base were of good proportion. The cake was cheesy but not overpowering. A good buy from the icing room. Both slices cost a total of $8.80.

Such a great feeling to hang out with my secondary school friends again. (:

Dean & Deluca

Went with ZQ to Dean & Delica. Look at those yummy cakes!

I ordered Caramel Cheesecake ($8). The caramel layer was a little too thin so I couldn't really taste it(kinda disappointed since I love caramel). However the cake was rich, dense and cheesy. Good with a cup of hot tea. I also love that there were walnuts as it helped cut the richness I got from the cake. This is a must try for cheesecake lovers. Overall I think they should have a much thicker layer of caramel but still I like it.

ZQ ordered the Rainbow Cake ($7.50) and to our surprise each layer had a different fruity taste. The frosting also had a fruity flavor. Something different from the usual rainbow cake. However, ZQ said one of the layers tasted like cough syrup. I tried a little and thought that it was nice and moist but I still prefer my rich yummy cheesecake which ZQ would disagree.
