Ajumma

Came here for lunch with ky and wx for wx's birthday. Ajumma is a causal Korean dinning restaurant located at The Cathay.

Canned drinks ($1.50 ea). Wx and I had the peach while ky had the grape. Both were nice but majority of us preferred the grape juice which had a few real grapes in it! (that surprised us)

Each set comes with 4 side dishes- Kimchi, Yellow Pickled Radish (danmuji), Korean Seaweed and Corn. Kimchi was slightly spicy and sour with a good bite to it. Radish was crunchy. Seaweed had a very strong sea taste.

I ordered the Bibimbap Hot Stone Set (Dolsot) ($10.90)-Yellow bean sprouts, spinach, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, cucumbers, egg and choice of beef, pork or chicken in a hot stone bowl. I chose beef. Once you get your dish you had better start stirring, if not the bottom will get burnt. The main flavour of this dish is the chili paste (Gochujang) which isn't very spicy and has a unique taste which I don't really like.

Ky had the Chicken Bulgogi Set ($7.90). Bulgogi in direct translation means fire beef but it can refer to any marinated meat. Ky said the chicken was normal and cooked just nice.
Wx had the Signature Beef Kalbi Set ($13.90)- certified USA Prime beef ribs. Wx complaint that there were too many fats in the beef. Taste wise it was okay.

Hoddeok Pancake ($3.90 for 2 pieces). My first time trying this. It tasted like deep fried mantou. Slight crisp exterior and soft on the inside. The filling was honey and cinnamon but I could hardly taste the cinnamon. Also, the pancake gets a little oily when it cools down.

Shin-Sapporo Ramen (Tampines)

Went with Nia to Shin-Sapporo Ramen for lunch because Nia was craving for ramen.

Both Nia and I ordered the lunch set. Eugenia order Set 1- Menchi Ramen with Shin-Sapporo Gyoza ($11.80+$3) while I ordered Set 4- Karaage Curry Rice with Shin-Sapporo Gyoza ($13.80+$3). Both of us upsized (+$3) to regular size as the waitress told us that the serving were actually mini size.

I got the Hot Tea. Your usual unsweetened green tea. Nia had Cold Tea which was the same tea except served cold. Somehow I felt that the cold tea tasted more bitter.

Salad- shredded cabbage, cherry tomato with sesame dressing. All vegetable with this sesame dressing always taste good.

Karaage Curry Rice. Plain rice served with sweet curry and topped with garlic flavored chicken. Curry was similar to those store bought kind. There were potatoes and carrots inside which were well cooked. Fried chicken was not overcooked and was juicy with garlic taste.

Shin-Sapporo Gyoza. It was not bad. Minced meat and chive for the filling which were seasoned.

Menchi Ramen. Soup tasted a little like instant noodle kind to me. Nia said the dish was so so. Menchi was nice. Menchi is like minced meat except finer.

Ice Cream. We got free ice cream by liking their facebook page which the service staff informed us. It was vanilla flavored ice cream with chocolate sauce. A sweet way to end my meal.

Llao Llao (Plaza Singapura)

Had Llao Llao with zq and gen.

Llao Llao started off in Spain and expanded very quickly. Even though it was not the first frozen yogurt brand to arrive in Singapore, it sure is the most popular. Almost everyone has heard of it and there is always a queue for it. But maybe because there is a long queue that the service staff aren't quite friendly.

Gen, zq and I all order a Sanum ($8.50) each- frozen yogurt, crunch, three fruit, sauce, frozen yogurt again and end of with sauce drizzled on the frozen yogurt. I chose strawberry, melon, kiwi, caramelized cookies and candy milk sauce.

http://www.werthers-original.us/products/caramel-candies/hard-candies
The candy milk sauce reminds me of my favourite candy Werther’s Original hard candies. The melon was not sweet at all but it did provide crunch. Strawberry was sweet and sour. Kiwi was slightly sour. All in all I'm still more of an ice cream person than a yogurt person.

Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee

Went Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee with zq for their famous dry chill ban mian pan mee. Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee actually started from Kuala Lumpur as you can see from the picture below.

It's free seating. At the table there's the menu and the order sheet which you fill in before proceeding to the cashier to make payment.

Both of us ordered the Signature Dry Chili Pan Mee ($5)- noodles, minced meat, meatball, ikan bilis, scallion, pan mee chilli and poached egg. Mix everything together and you get a flavourful dish. The noodles were well cooked, the minced meat was well seasoned, the ikan bilis helped add both flavor and crunch for the pan mee and the meatballs taste good as usual. They also gave a bowl of soup with the dish. The soup was slightly sweet and you could taste the vegetable that was in it. Zq said it tasted very home-y.

Yayoiken (313 Somerset)

Had lunch with GF and Seb at Yayoiken.

Yayoiken is a casual Japanese restaurant that serves affordable Teishoku, which means 'meal set' in Japanese. Their set usually consists of rice, miso soup, main dish and a side dish on a tray. That said, they do also have an a la carte menu for people who do not want a set meal.

Located next to the table was a device where you could order your food and even a glass of water.

I got the Mix Toji set ($13.90 + $1.90)- Sliced pork, fried prawn and pork cutlet topped with egg set which came with rice, cold tofu and miso soup. I upgraded my miso shiru to kajiru(Japanese soybean soup with clams) for additional $1.90 which wasn't served as hot as my friend's miso soup ): At least there were free flow of 'tsukemono' pickles at each table.

Genki Sushi (Bugis)

Finally went to Genki Sushi after so long.

Genki Sushi uses technology to their advantage. Orders are placed via iPad and dishes are served via the "kousoku" (express) system.

Using the iPad to order is quite fun. There's Genki Sushi games available on the iPad as well.

Ocha ($1.50). Once you order the green tea, they will serve you your cup. The green tea powder can be found in the drawer under the table.

Take 2 spoonful of the powder and add hot water.

Ta-da. The hot green tea is done! Edmund helped make the green tea for mine. So I didn't had to lift a finger to get my hot ocha (heheh).

Clam Salad ($4.20) So Yummy! Creamy, with bits of fish roe and chunks of surf clam.

Salmon Triple Flavor ($3.80). Original, Cheese and Pollock Roe Sauce. Both the cheese and pollock roe sauce were cooked on top which gave the salmon a more intense flavor.

Wasabi Octopus ($2.80). Wasabi was strong, my nose almost died. Stronger than the ones seerved at Sushi Express.

Surf Clam Gunkan ($2.80). So good that I ate one before taking a picture of it. As good as the salad just with the addition of sushi rice.

Egg Pollock Roe ($2.30). End of my meal with this. Sweet egg with savory pollock roe sauce that was lightly torched. The lightly burnt part gave it a nice slight smoky taste.

Marché Restaurant (313@Somerset)

Went to Marché Restaurant for the first time! They way things run in this restaurant is different from your typical kind. It's more like your usual hawker center where there are a few stalls for you to order but instead of paying cash to the stall directly, you pay it to the cashier when you leave. At the entrance you will receive a card which you give the stall to swipe when you purchase your food. At the end of your meal you give this card to the cashier and pay before exiting the place.

Plain Rosti ($7.40)- Pan-fried till crispy on the outside, served with a generous topping of sour cream, spring onions and lemon. I heard a lot of people raving about how good their rosti was and here I am finally trying it. I have to admit it really is good. Crisp on the outside and well cooked all the way through. They gave a generous amount of sour cream which is hard to see in the picture above. The lemon helped cut some of the oiliness. The dish was well seasoned. Overall yummy. I will be back for more when the time comes.

Honey Creme

Finally tried Honey Creme!

Honey Creme is a South Korean brand that serves soft serve ice cream using organic milk. When they first opened on 26 Oct 2014 there was always a long queue forming outside their stall. So long that I didn't bother queuing for it. But now the hype for Honey Creme is over and no more queues (yay!).

Shared the Organic Cotton Candy ($5.50) with zq- Organic sugar is obtained as the main element for making this cotton candy. The original soft serve ice-cream is wigged with this natural color and non-artificial flavoring fluffy white cotton candy. On top of this cotton candy, you will see studs of Italian pink rock salt acting upon as a catalyst of flavor to this spectacular tasting ice-cream.

I didn't know they sprinkled salt on top of the cotton candy. It was a good choice, I love eating the sweet, fluffed up, light cotton candy with the salt. Reminds me of favorite salted caramel. Zq and I ate the cotton candy first. Now on to the ice cream. At first bite, it tasted like unsweetened whipped cream to me. For zq, it tasted like unsalted butter which I also agree. After a while it tasted a little like almond and then it started to taste like Mr Bean soya ice cream. Texture wise, it was creamy. It wasn't so sweet which I like. Overall I really like it but not so for zq who prefers llao llao.
